Sport-S Ladies started their National Volleyball League Playoffs series with a comprehensive 3-0 win over OBB Queens Saturday night at the Old Kampala Arena.

The game of the semifinals pitted the top seed of the regular season against the fourth seed, and the difference was like night and day.

OBB struggled to get the right first pass all game, while Sport-S barely got a thing wrong all evening.

Players like setter Jesca Kaidu and opposite Moreen Mwamula were recruited for these kinds of games, but the former was not even present due to sickness while the latter is nursing an injured right hand.

Without their services, a predominantly young OBB side failed to handle the pressure on the big stage.

Perfect start

Sport-S got off to a good start, their service troubling OBB to race into a 14-05 lead.

Playing without Moreen Mwamula, OBB attempted a comeback. A 6-0 run saw them close the gap to just four points (24-21), but the damage had been done.

Sport-S took the first set 25-21 to get the early advantage in the game.

It was a tightly-contested start to the two sides tied at 5-all.

Hadijjah Otin gave the Iganga-based side some bite of offence, but when Sport-S started to break away (10-06), OBB head coach Protus Soita needed a timeout to sort things.

Comfort Twesiime and Renata Kamahoro caused damage through the OBB block.

Sport-S doubled their advantage by claiming the second set 25-16, and OBB had their backs against the wall.

Mwamula was introduced to start the third frame.

Malic Damulira’s charges carried their set two momentum into the third and led 05-00 to force OBB into a quick timeout.

The lead ballooned to 11 points (15-04) as Sport-S continued to pace their serve and trouble the OBB's first pass.

Sport-S took the third set 25-11 to win Game One and take the lead in the best-of-three series.

Soita’s troops must now regroup for a must-win Game Two in two weeks' time or say goodbye to their title ambitions.
