Malkia Strikers had a baptism by fire when they lost in straight sets 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-12) to Brazil in their opening match on Monday and have a daunting task against Poland.
Having lost to second ranked Brazil, Kenya, ranked 20 globally, take on Poland, who are ranked fourth, knowing there is no margin for error.

Malkia Strikers coach Japheth Munala and captain Triza Atuka have expressed satisfaction in their opening match against Brazil despite the defeat.

Kenya can, however, draw confidence from the fact that they managed to pick points from Brazil while Poland lost a set to Japan and with a proper strategy, they have a chance.
Coach Japheth Munala blamed poor finishing and net defence for their loss to Brazil and promised to watch Poland’s videos ahead on Wednesday’s meeting and should be ready for the showdown which will begin at 10pm Kenyan time.

Kenya's Malkia Strikers faced a tough loss against Brazil in their Paris 2024 Olympic opener extending their winless streak.
“Our next opponents Poland are a strong team and having played Brazil today is an eye-opener because most of the players realize that if we can try against Brazil, we can do better against Poland because the opening match is always difficult but now, we know what to plan on to approach the next match,” Kenya captain Trizah Atuka told Nation.
Kenya have never gone beyond the group stage at the Olympics and in their fourth appearance in Paris, there is hope that things can change even if they are up against tough opposition.
