The defeat means that Nemostars will not be part of the playoffs for the first time since 2011.
Nemostars will play their last game of the National Volleyball League season on Sunday, and that is rare.
The six-time champions are out of the playoffs equation after suffering a 3-1 loss to OBB Saturday evening.
Andrew Okapis’ charges needed to win their last two games and hope that OBB falters along the way, but the defending champions were in top form, registering a 1oth win on the season.
OBB has now moved to 31 points, five ahead of fifth-placed Nemostars, who have one game left on their regular season schedule.
Not even maximum points off Nkumba Navy on Sunday can drag Nemostars back into the playoffs mix.
OBB had veterans Ivan Ongom and John Bosco Opendi back in action after a long time out.
Ongom has been out since the start of the season, while Opendi was in and out of the team in the first round.
The defending champions took the first set 25-19, relying on Cosmas Apunyo and Kelvin Kiplagat to dismantle Nemostars’ porous net defence.
The lead grew to two sets when OBB took the second frame 25-22, and Nemostars were now in serious trouble.
With their backs against the wall, the 2019 champions fought back through George Aporu’s offence to halve the deficit (25-17).
There was coming back, though, as Johnson Kawenyera’s charges grabbed all three points by taking the fourth frame 3-1 to avenge their first-round loss.
“It was an abysmal day for us,” Nemostars captain George Aporu told Pulse Sports after the game.
“We failed to receive, and that was the main issue,” he added.
The defeat means that Nemostars will not be part of the playoffs for the first time since 2011.
OBB will be looking to test their firepower against KAVC in their penultimate game of the regular season on Sunday.
