Kenya's Malkia Strikers faced a tough loss against Brazil in their Paris 2024 Olympic opener extending their winless streak.

Kenya kicked off the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on a challenging note succumbing to a formidable Brazilian team with a score of 3-0.

The clash, which took place at the South Paris Arena, saw the two-time Olympic champions Brazil overpower Malkia Strikers in straight sets of 25-14, 25-13, and 25-12.

The Brazilian squad managed to maintain control throughout the match as strong serves and powerful spikes proved too much for the Kenyan defense.

Despite their enthusiasm and spirited play Malkia Strikers struggled to find their rhythm against Brazil's well-orchestrated attacks.

Malkias composed of seasoned players like Edith Wisa, Veronica Adhiambo, Aggripina Kundu, Triza Atuka, and Pamela Odhiambo, showcased moments of brilliance with resilient defense and quick counters.

However, the gap in experience and execution was evident as Brazil consistently outperformed them in critical moments of the game.

This match marked the eighth encounter between Kenya and Brazil, with the historical odds heavily favoring the South Americans.

Brazil has now extended their winning streak against Kenya across various competitive platforms, including the World Cup, World Championships, and now the Olympics. Impressively, Brazil has won all 21 sets played against Kenya in these meetings.

Looking ahead Malkia Strikers will not have much time to dwell on this defeat as they prepare for their next challenge.

They are set to face Poland on Wednesday, July 31. Poland comes into the match with a confidence boost, having defeated Japan 3-1 in their opening game.

The upcoming match presents an opportunity for Kenya to regroup and aim for a better performance in their second pool B match.
