The win leaves KCCA in third place and 24 points, two ahead of fourth-placed OBB. Meanwhile, the loss is a blow to Nkumba’s charge in the race to the playoffs.

KCCA maintained third place in the women’s National Volleyball League with a commanding 3-0 win over KCB-Nkumba Sunday afternoon.

Shilla Omuriwe’s charges needed to win to get back to third. OBB’s 3-0 win over Espoir Sunday morning left the National Club Championship in third place.

And with that in mind, KCCA needed the perfect start. And they got it, sailing through the first set 25-21 to set the pace.

Nkumba started the second set on the front foot and led 08-04 to force KCCA into an early time-out. The time-out resulted in KCCA getting back into the set and levelling at 9-9.

Supernatural Mbakisimira tore through the middle block to give KCCA a 10-09 lead, and there was no coming back for Nkumba.

Eunice Amuron went over the block to give the Kasasiro Girls a 19-16 lead, and Nkumba head coach Tony Lakony needed a time out.

KCCA continued to suffocate Nkumba’s offence. Mbakisimira and Joan Tushemereirwe combined to block Monica Aloyo for KCCA to take the set 25-19.

The start of the second set was rough for Nkumba. KCCA led 05-00, with the seven-time champions needing help to get the right first pass.

With Science Jemima in the service box, Nkumba got back into the set and levelled at 07-07. However, Nkumba’s fight bore no fruits as KCCA held on to take the set 25-18.

The win leaves KCCA in third place and 24 points, two ahead of fourth-placed OBB. Meanwhile, the loss is a blow to Nkumba’s charge in the race to the playoffs.

At 18 points, the 2019 champions remain fifth on the log, four points behind OBB.
