Young Nigerian Tennis stars win scholarships, set for US training stint

After some exceptional performance at the Junior Tennis Championship in Lagos, two young tennis stars have been granted scholarships to the US.

Goodluck Tersoo from Benue State and Joy Emmanuel from Lagos State have secured life-changing opportunities after emerging victorious at the Adewale Isa Foundation Junior Tennis Championship.

The duo will embark on training tours in the United States as a reward for their exceptional performances at the tournament. The announcement was made during the championship's closing ceremony.

Tersoo, renowned for his impressive ball-striking skills, clinched the Boys' U-12 title after a thrilling final against Kingsley Godwin. Despite trailing 0-5 in the second set, the 11-year-old displayed remarkable resilience to turn the match around and win the competition.

Joy Emmanuel, the Girls' U-12 champion, also showcased exceptional talent throughout the competition. Her victory over Karina Opuene secured her spot on the US training tour.

Other notable winners include Gloria Samuel, who claimed the Girls' U-14 title, and Amir Mohammed, who emerged victorious in the Boys' U-14 category.

The Adewale Isa Foundation has once again demonstrated its commitment to nurturing young tennis talent in Nigeria.

The US training tours offer these promising athletes an invaluable opportunity to enhance their skills and gain international exposure.

Winners in all the categories were rewarded for their efforts with giant trophies and two new tennis racquets each while the runners-up got a racquet each for their efforts.

Complimentary prizes like bags and socks were given to the third and fourth place winners respectively as a way of appreciating the players for participating in the tournament.
