Billie Jean King Cup: Angella Okutoyi reacts following Kenya's third-place finish

Angella Okutoyi is not disappointed despite Kenya missing out on the promotion to the Billie Jean King Cup II Group.

Angella Okutoyi has reacted following Kenya’s third-place at the just-concluded Billie Jean King Cup Group III that was happening at the Nairobi Club.

South Africa carried the day and attained their promotion back to the Billie Jean King Cup Europe/Africa Group II following their 3-0 victory over Kenya. Nigeria finished second in the hotly-contested tournament.

The tennis star posted on her X (Twitter) handle, lauding the team for the hard work and commitment, and explained that remaining at the top is what mattered to them.

She was in awe of the fans who showed up in large numbers to support the team, explaining that it is something not taken for granted.

“BILLIE JEAN KING CUP 2024 with this team was unbelievable, the atmosphere was one not to forget. this time once again but what they say is winning is one thing but remaining at the top is another,” she said.

“Grateful to everyone who made this event magical and to the fans who never let us down at all Thanks to @dr.phill_therapy_wellness and the team for taking really good care of me!! NO WEAKNESS TEAM."

Meanwhile, during the match, Gabriella Broadfoot saw off Cynthia Wanjala 6-3, 6-1, as Isabella Kruger emerged victorious against Angella Okutoyi 7-6, 6-3. Gabriella and Heike Van Vuuren partnered in the doubles to win 6-1, 3-6, 10-4 in a thrilling contest which led to rubber match after the series was tied 1-1.

Playing in the 1st to 3rd Play-Offs, South Africa kept a record six victories in their six matches against Nigeria and Kenya during the 1-3rd place play offs.
