The strength of the Algeria National team highlights the challenge that awaits the Uganda Cranes in their 2023 AFCON qualifier on Sunday in Douala, Cameroon.
The 1990 and 2019 African champions reminded Uganda of their quality on Thursday night while celebrating six players who won continental titles in three different clubs.
The team’s captain, Riyadh Mahrez, along with Said Benrahma and Zineddine Belaid, cut a cake that featured the logos of their respective clubs: Manchester City, West Ham, and USM Alger.
Mahrez, who plays for Manchester City, triumphed in the UEFA Champions League, while Benrahma clinched the UEFA Conference title with West Ham.
Zineddine and fellow teammates Haithem Loucif, Aymen Mahious and goalkeeper Oussama Benbot led Algerian giants USM Algers to their first-ever continental title when they won the 2022/23 CAF Confederations Cup.
In the final, the Algerians beat Tanzanian side Young Africans, home to Uganda Cranes midfielder Khalid Aucho.
