Super Eagles celebrates John Utaka's AFCON heroics
At the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Super Eagles forward John Utaka took center stage in the quarterfinals.
The Super Eagles took on the defending champions the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in an AFCON quarterfinals on the 8th of February 2004.
Samuel Eto'o put Cameroon in front in the 42nd minute and Jay Jay Okocha equalized for the Super Eagles in the 45.
Utaka scored what turned out the winner in the 73rd minute from a ball by Nwankwo Kanu.
The Super Eagles have now celebrated the victory at the Stade Mustapha Ben Jannet, Monastir ahead of their preparation for the AFCON.
A statement by the Super Eagles said, "The control and pass from @papilokanu to put #JohnUtaka through on goal, well you know the rest.....

Super Eagles World Cup qualifier
After failing to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Nigerian football fans were optimistic about the Super Eagles' chances for the next edition.
To start their qualification campaign, the Super Eagles had to come from behind to get a draw against the Crocodiles of Lesotho.
In their second group game, the Super Eagles also had to come from behind to get a draw away against the Warriors of Zimbabwe.
The Super Eagles Nigeria, three-time Africa Cup of Nations winners claim they would use the rallying cry "Let's Do It Again" to help them win a fourth championship in Cote d'Ivoire early in 2024.
The Super Eagles will now converge later in December as they prepare for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
