Multople world champion Noah Lyles is among those who have celebrated Fullmetal Alchemist’s Iconic ‘3rd October’ manga series, with the scene reminding him of his past struggles.

Noah Lyles is among those celebrating an iconic scene from Hiromu Arakawa’s famed Japanese manga series Fullmetal Alchemist popularly known as ‘3rd October.’

Lyles, who recently compared his own past hardships to the scene, was among those who retweeted @FMAPerfectShots, an unofficial Fullmetal Alchemist page of the memorable scene ‘3rd October’ on X in remembrance of one of the darkest anime series ever produced.

The importance of October 3 in the anime comes from the fact that it’s the day the Elric brothers broke an alchemical taboo by attempting to resurrect their deceased mother.

Because of this forbidden ritual, Edward lost one of his arms and legs, and his younger brother Alphonse lost his entire body, forcing Edward to bond Al’s soul to an empty armor.

With their mother dead and father nowhere to be found, the Elric brothers (Edward and Alphonse) decided to burn down their family house to set out on a journey to find the Philosopher’s Stone. For them, destroying their former residence symbolised their resolve to leave the past behind and focus on their goal of restoring their bodies.

For Lyles, a huge fan of both manga (comic books) and anime (animation), the scene reminds him of his own struggles before he became a global athletics superstar.

Lyles had to overcome asthma, which threatened to derail his aspirations, to go on and win three world titles in 200m, one in 100m as well as Olympics gold.

“I have Asthma, allergies, dyslexia, ADD, anxiety, and Depression. But I will tell you that what you have does not define what you can become,” reads a post pinned on his X handle explaining some of the challenges he has conquered.

Lyles has never hidden his love for both manga and animes and was among those devastated with the death of Akira Toriyama, creator of his favourite Japanese comic series Dragon Ball in March this year.
