The talented Afrobeat superstar opened up on his love for sports and gaming following his return to music.
Nigerian singer Tekno is widely regarded as one of the most talented artistes in Afrobeat.
The 30-year-old singer and producer is the genius behind a host of Afropop hits including 'Duro', 'Wash', 'Pana', 'Yawa', amongst others.
The Bauchi State-born musician had been out of the limelight for a while due to health issues but made his return to scene in 2022 featuring in one of the biggest songs of the past year - 'Buga (Lo Lo Lo)' by Kizz Daniel.
The serial hitmaker recently opened up on a number of issues about his personal life in an interview on the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast, including his love for sports and gaming.
Tekno speaks on love for Boxing, MMA and Call of Duty
During the interview on the podcast, the ‘Pana’ crooner was forced to open up on his love for Boxing having made reference to the sport a number of times when describing how he fought back a recent illness.
‘I like it, I like it a lot.” he said.
“In childhood, my father used to watch a lot of boxing, so I learned. I enjoyed watching it because it’s another man beating another man.” he joked.
When also asked about other combat sports he watches, he said: “I love combat too much.”
“I love boxing because it’s the one that the IQ is high. Because with MMA you could get kneed in the face and it’s game over. You could get submitted on the ground.
“With boxing, you’re gonna stand face to face and attempt to k*ll this person through the head, through the belly, or just score points and win on the scorecard.
“So it has to do with a lot of discipline, a lot of thinking fast because if this person brings his game, I have to now change my gameplan to beat them with this XYZ move. So there’s too much calculation in boxing. MMA is anywhere belle face’
The music star also admitted his love for the combat of MMA labelling the bloody fights as his favourite part of the sport.
“I enjoy that part of MMA. A huge boxing fan will always love MMA.” he said
He continued: “I don’t know if there’s any champion in the UFC that I don’t know since I like Mixed Martial Arts for sure. But the art of combat - Boxing has to do with more technique, and science, and IQ, and you know…just being smart, saving the gas tank for later rounds…too much calculation in boxing.
“UFC, if the person knows ground game and you don’t know ground game, it’s done.
“So boxing would be a more technical sport and I like the challenging type.”
Tekno further admitted he has not actively been in the ring with anyone yet, but did not rule out the possibility of a potential bout in the future.
“I haven’t boxed anybody yet but if e set…I’m ready” he joked.
While speaking on the subject of combat, the 30-year-old music star also revealed he’s an active Call of Duty player, citing the ‘Free for All’ mode, as his go-to match in the game.
Tekno joins an extensive list of Nigerian singers who are active gamers including Rema, Fireboy, Tems, Buju BNXN, Ruger, DJ Xclusive, DJ Neptune, Dica Ailes, Ycee, amongst a host of others.
