Nigerian Nightmare Kamaru Usman dared to be great against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294.

American professional mixed martial artist of Nigerian descent, Kamaru Usman, recently spoke up about his UFC 294 defeat to Khamzat Chimaev.

With his amazing performance, "The Nigerian Nightmare" shocked the crowd, as many thought he would have won if the fight had gone five rounds.

The former UFC welterweight champion gave it his all, but the judges scored the fight 28-28, 29-27, and 29-27, so he lost by majority decision.

Unexpectedly, Kamaru Usman agreed to fight 'Borz' at middleweight after Paulo Costa's medical clearance to do so had been denied.

Usman on loss to Chimaev

He posted an explanation of his decision on his X account, stating that he assumed the risk for his reputation in the sport because it could have an impact on his title.

He said, "I dared 2 be great & fell short. Sometimes this is the journey of life.

"I prey I never complain about the cards I’ve been dealt 4 I have been blessed beyond my wildest dreams Alhamdulilah 4 everything.

"We go back 2 the drawing board &Insha Allah we’ll be back #UFC294 #GREATFUL".

Usman, after the fight, stated in an interview with ESPN stated he was questioning things.

Not having had a complete training camp, the former welterweight champion showed tremendous cardio and perseverance.

Whether Kamaru Usman will go back to welterweight or try to get another bout at middleweight is still up in the air.
