After defeating Tanzania and Burundi on an aggregate score, the dependable Falconets—who have also advanced to the semi-finals of the Japan Cup 12 years ago and made it to the quarterfinals in 2006, 2018, and 2022—snapped one of Africa's tickets to the championship match of this year.

During the first four weeks of their last camping in Abuja, the maidens led by Coach Christopher Musa Danjuma won a number of friendly games and only lost once.

"This will go a long way to help the team, as the players will acclimatize very well and get familiar with their surroundings before the championship begins.
"I assure you that we will make the best use of this opportunity,” Danjuma told thenff.com on Saturday, hours before the team was due to fly out of the country to Istanbul aboard a Turkish Airline flight, en route Bogota."
The team met with Sports Minister John Owan Enoh on Friday, and after winning silver medals and making it to the semifinals once before, he urged them to go for the grand prize.

The Falconets first appeared in the competition in 2002, when it was still known as the U19 Championship. Since then, they have competed in Thailand in 2004, Russia in 2006, Chile in 2008, Germany in 2010, Japan in 2012, Canada in 2014, Papua New Guinea in 2016, France in 2018, and Costa Rica in 2022.
The competition welcomes 24 teams for the first time, and the Falconets know they must start battling hard from the first blast of the whistle in Bogota to have any hope of entering the Round of 16. They have already been drawn to play Korea Republic, Germany, and Venezuela in that order in the group round.
With the field enlarged to 24, Africa now boasts four flag-bearers (this time, Nigeria, Morocco, Cameroon, and Ghana). Games will be held in three distinct cities (Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali) at four separate venues.

On September 1, Nigeria takes on Korea Republic in their opening tournament encounter at Bogota's 10,000-seat Estadio Metropolitano de Techo, the same stadium where they play Germany three days later.
On September 7, they play Venezuela at the Estadio Pascual Guerrero in Cali in their last group stage encounter.
