Kenya Sevens got the better of Australia to start their Cape Town Sevens campaign on a positive note ahead of a tricky meeting against Spain.
Kenya Sevens started their Cape Town Sevens campaign in fine fashion following a come from behind 19-12 victory against Australia on Saturday.
Shujaa had to do it the hard way after the Aussies took a giant lead at the break before they clawed back to claim a memorable win and avenge last week’s defeat to the same opposition in Dubai.
Australia went ahead through two tries, one converted, for a 12-0 lead, before Kevin Wekesa reduced the arrears for Kevin Wambua’s men, Nygel Amaitsa converting for 12-7 in favour of the Aussies at the break.

Shujaa eye positive outing in Cape Town with tricky Australia & Spain standing on their way
Kenya Sevens are looking for an improved performance at the Cape Town Sevens but must first take down Australia and Spain at the group stage.
Shujaa upped the ante in the second stanza, pinning Australia in their own half and it paid dividends when Dennis Abukuse was tackled without the ball to earn Kenya a penalty try, stretching their advantage to 14-12.
George Ooro then put on the afterburners when he stormed to the try line to score from a ruck for the 19-12 win in favour of Shujaa who managed to avenge last week’s 31-14 loss to the same team.
Kenya will now head into their second group match high on confidence as they take on Spain at 3.16pm Kenyan time. It is a tricky match for Shujaa given the Spaniards finished second in Dubai but a positive result is within their reach if they avoid mistakes.
Shujaa managed just three points in Dubai after a 10th-place finish but can add more on the board with a positive outing in Cape Town.
