The Kenya Shujaa saw off Shogun rugby in a fierce contest to retain their Safari Sevens title.

Kenya Shujaa retained the Safari Sevens title on Sunday in a fiercely contested final against Shogun rugby at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday evening.

Both teams were evenly matched in the first half with neither team budging as they locked horns.

Shujaa's Odongo didn't find much joy in the half with Shogun's backline aware of his deadly pace stopping him in his tracks before he could turn on the afterburners.

Kenya would soon knock yet again as George Ooro nearly scored Shujaa's first try of the game but went out of the try-box.

Shujaa came in to the second half guns blazing and rearing to go as they took the game to Shogun.

Odongo's pace finally proved too hot to handle as he broke for the try line after Dennis Abukuse off-loaded to the pacy winger following a successful scrum.

The Shujaa speedsters left Shogun's backline in his wake as he went over the try-line to score Kenya's first try.

Shujaa's successful title defense was cemented by Ben Salem who broke through Shogun's backline after Samuel Asati's brilliant off-load to him to score Kenya's second try as the game ended 12-0.
