KRU Championship 2023/24 season kicks off with 11 teams in thrilling rugby showdowns across Kenya.

The 2023/24 Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Championship season is set to kick off on Saturday with a total of five thrilling fixtures on the cards.

This season's competition features 11 formidable teams, as Shamas withdrew, setting the stage for an electrifying season.

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) RFC, who was relegated from the top tier last season, will get the proceedings underway when they host JKUAT Cougars in the early kickoff at the Kakamega Showground at 10 am.

This matchup was originally scheduled for the Masinde Muliro ground but had to be moved due to the university's graduation ceremony on Friday, December 1.

The opening clash between the two sides promises to set the tone for an exciting season ahead.

With both teams eager to start on a winning note, rugby enthusiasts can anticipate a fierce battle on the pitch, showcasing the passion and talent that the KRU Championship is known for.

Co-captain of MMUST Veron Kaburu expressed the team's determination and readiness for the championship.

"We have trained well during the preseason, putting in the hard work to be ready for the championship. I know we are ready, and we'll work extremely hard to go back to Kenya Cup," said Kaburu as per Scrummage.

He also emphasized the significance of the Victoria 15s tournament, where they tested their structures and identified areas for improvement. "It was also important for the young boys to win as it helped build back the winning mentality," he added.

Kaburu had a special message for the loyal MMUST fans, urging them to show up in numbers and rally behind the team as they embark on their journey this Saturday.

Meanwhile, Daystar Falcons will face off against Mombasa in Athi River, adding to the day's rugby extravaganza.

This matchup will undoubtedly be a test of strength and strategy, as these teams aim to secure their positions early in the competition.

In Ukunda, rugby enthusiasts can head to the Seacrest Gardens to witness South Coast Pirates take on Western Bulls.

The seaside clash is bound to be a thrilling spectacle as the Pirates aim to defend their home turf against the relentless Bulls.

Over at the Impala Club, rugby fans in Nairobi can look forward to a captivating showdown as Impala welcomes the USIU Martials.

Kabarak University will also be in action as they face off against the University of Eldoret Trojans in a clash that promises excitement and fierce competition.

While the KRU Championship promises an action-packed weekend, fans might notice that Mean Machine is not in action this weekend. However, as the season unfolds, they will have their chance to shine and make their presence felt on the championship stage.
