Menengai Oilers coach Gibson Weru is hoping to have Samson Onsomu and Davis Nyaundi for the Prinsloo Sevens scheduled for August 5-6 in Nakuru.
Oilers were the most improved team in the second round of the National Sevens Circuit when they finished second at Driftwood Sevens in Mombasa after losing 10-7 in sudden death to Kabras Sugar and Weru has confidence that his side will build onto the good performance in the third leg in their home city.
His optimism stems from the good mix of youth and experience in his squad with hopes high that seasoned Onsomu and Nyaundi, who have been nursing injuries, will return just in time for the Prinsloo duel.

RUGBY Abukuse using World Series exposure in bid to defend Oilers Sevens Circuit title
The Kenya Sevens youngster was named MVP in the recently concluded Driftwood Sevens in Mombasa.
“Onsomu is coming of age in terms of his fitness so we just hope that he can get fitter because he has an amazing vision and skillset. Nyaudi could not make the trip to Mombasa due to injuries, he’s getting back in shape and we hope that he will be fit by the time we get to play,” Weru said, as per the club’s media team.
“We have very young and exciting players in the squad. In Mombasa, we introduced Timothy Lugalia who played extremely well and it gives us encouragement. There are still so many players in the pipeline who are impressing in training heading into Prinsloo Sevens.”
Oilers also have Driftwood Sevens Most Valuable Player Dennis Abukuse in their ranks. Abukuse scored six tries in Mombasa and after the opening two legs, only teammate Beldad Ogeta (31) has more carries than his 27.

The Sugar Millers needed Jone Kubu’s penalty to win the title during a tightly-contested final at Mombasa Sports Club.
He is also second on the most line breaks with 12, just one behind Brunson Madigu of Strathmore Leos, and also only behind Strathmore’s Victor Mola on most tackles with 24, one less than the latter.
“In terms of individual performance, I am very pleased with what I am seeing. We are beginning to get combinations that are actually working,” added Weru.
“The hunger within the training group is amazing, the energy is very high, the camaraderie is encouraging. They are happy and we are working for each other and it makes the work easier for me to make sure that the tactical bit is in place.”

The sugar millers occupy top spot with 41 points, two ahead of KCB as Menengai Oilers close in on the top three
Oilers collected 19 points at Driftwood, seven more than they managed from their sixth-place finish in the season-opening Dala Sevens, in Kisumu.
They head into the third leg in fourth place on the standings with 31 points and given they will be playing in their home city of Nakuru next, they will need no motivation.
Kabras occupy top spot with 41 points followed by KCB, who have 39, while Strathmore complete the top three with 32 points.
