Shujaa Sevens hotshot Kevin Wekesa has revealed that completing school will help him fully focus on his rugby ahead of what is destined to be a crucial year for the national sevens side in 2024.
The Kabras Sugar player had been studying mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Kenya since 2019, but has now completed his classes and is awaiting to graduate some time next year.
Speaking to Pulse Sports, Wekesa admitted that it had been difficult to try and strike a balance between rugby and books, but the fact that he has now completed his studies ahead of a year set to be monumental for his international career, will help a great deal.

RUGBY 15 teams confirm participation as Safari Sevens makes grand return
A total of 15 teams including the defending champions, Kenya Sevens have confirmed participation at the Safari Sevens tournament this weekend.
“In terms of studying, there has been a pressure trying to balance it with my rugby, but I do not think the pressure goes away because and the end, you still have to focus on life after rugby and then transition to rugby from your profession,” Wekesa said.
“I cannot say that it is hard for now, but having finished school, I have got some decent time to focus on rugby.”
Wekesa intends on helping Kenya make the playoffs of the Challenger series and then win it to earn back promotion to the World Series, as well as do well at the Olympics.

The 22-year-old has revealed that all players are pulling in similar directions considering most of the newbies in the Shujaa set up are roughly of the same age as he is.
“My long term goal is to help Shujaa qualify back for the Olympics. We have to focus on taking those baby steps to maintain top four in the challenger and qualify for the playoffs in Madrid probably in May.
“Hopefully, in May, we will not let our fans down as we will have gotten back to the series and then finish off the season in Paris with the Olympics, which is my long term goal with sevens.
“Building with the new players, so that by the time the playoff comes, we will have a solid team and a confident team that will bring the glory back to Kenya.”

Shujaa are set to take part in the Safari Sevens tournament set to take place at the RFUEA Grounds this weekend, and the tournament will go a long way in helping Shujaa prepare for the Challenger series.
The other teams include Morans, Uganda, Samurai, Germany, Red Wailers and Tropic 7s. KCB Rugby, Western Province, and SA All-Stars have also confirmed participation at the tournament.
