Shujaa coasted to victory in each of their opening three games, while Morans won two and lost their last match against KCB 22-7.

Shujaa and Morans coach Kevin Bling Wambua insists that he intends to get his teams to both keep progressing over the Safari Sevens, as well as retain the title in Shujaa’s case.

Shujaa coasted to victory in each of their opening three games, while Morans, which serves as the platform for emerging starts itching to stake claim to a place in the main setup, won two and lost their last match against KCB 22-7.

Speaking after the match, Wambua was grateful that the young Morans would gain invaluable experience from participating in the tournament as they will learn not to make the mistakes that they did against KCB.

“Last game was a bit disappointing. I think the boys played off-script,” Wambua said.

“We knew KCB was going to be physical but we did not stick to our structures and gameplan, but that is a good lesson for them.

“It is important for the Morans to take part in these tournaments so that they can understand the pressure that comes with playing in these kind of games.

“For me, much as we lost, it is a good lesson and I think they can pick it up ahead of the remaining games of the tournament.”

Wambua has challenged his charges to learn to stick to the game plan if they are to stand a chance of progressing as far as possible.

“It is just about sticking to the game plan, trusting the system because we need to be a bit more patient with the ball. We were rattled and never really got composed and that is why we lost that game.”

On Shujaa, Wambua intends to have them ready before the challenger series, describing the Safari Sevens as the best platform for him.

“It is all about the process. Our main aim is to ensure that we have good preparations before we start our challenger series. This is the best platform for that.

“All these internationals give us a good chance to test progress in terms of how they have been training and also to measure the quality of both sides.”

The youthful tactician has been pleased with the brand of rugby both his teams have displayed so far.

“We are working on the process of improving as a team and trying to make sure we retain this tournament.”

“The quality of play has been impressive. We have been playing with high tempo, high accuracy and the skill level is quite fantastic.

“First four games for the two teams, I think we only had one handling error, which is the level we have to play at if we want to really get back to the circuit.”
