MMUST Rugby Club bids farewell to their exceptional center as he sets his sights on making a significant impact in American rugby

Masinde Muliro University Rugby Club (MMUST) have confirmed the departure of one of its exceptional talents Timothy Mmmasi as he embarks on an exciting new chapter with the American side, Old Blue Rugby, based in New York.

The new chapter in Mmasi's rugby career follows his previous experience playing for Kenya Sevens and Kenya Simbas.

In a statement released by MMUST Rugby Club, they congratulated Mmasi, acknowledging his unwavering commitment to the sport and his relentless pursuit of excellence.

"Congratulations to Timothy Mmasi, an incredible rugby talent, on his exciting new journey with the American side, Old Blue Rugby side in New York," MMUST said.

"Timothy's dedication, hard work, and exceptional skills have truly paid off, earning him this fantastic opportunity. It's a testament to his unwavering commitment to the sport and his relentless pursuit of excellence.

"We couldn't be prouder of you, Timothy! Your exceptional performances as a centre for MMUST Rugby have consistently impressed and inspired us. Now, as you embark on this new adventure with Old Blue Rugby we have no doubt that you will continue to shine brightly and make a significant impact on the rugby field.

"As you prepare to represent your new club, know that your friends, family, and fans will be cheering you on from all corners of the globe. Your determination and perseverance are an inspiration to aspiring rugby players everywhere."

Mmasi was part of the Currie Cup campaign, where Simbas finished eighth, and with his impressive track record, it is no surprise that he has caught the attention of Old Blue Rugby.

He will join Monate Akuei as the second Kenyan player at Old Blue Rugby.

Akuei, who started his life in America, leaped to the professional level earlier this year by joining Major League Rugby.

Established in 1963 by Columbia alums, Old Blue Rugby has maintained a strong connection with Columbia University and the Columbia RFC throughout its history.

The club has benefitted from a consistent influx of Columbia coaches and athletes, further solidifying the bond between the club and the university.

As Old Blue Rugby prepares for the upcoming Summer Sevens second leg set to take place in Newport, the addition of Mmasi to their lineup is expected to bolster their chances.

In the previous season, the club achieved remarkable success, securing three out of five Cup titles.
