Mokoro only made his Kenya Cup debut against Homeboyz last week, but already looks a masterpiece after a dominating display against Mwamba last Saturday.

Kenya Harlequin scrum half Cornelius Mokoro is a man on a mission to make it big after taking the 2023/2024 Kenya Cup season by storm despite only debuting a week ago against Homeboyz.

Mokoro held his own against Homeboyz but had an arguably better display against Mwamba at the weekend, producing a man of the match display as they brushed aside Mwamba 40-10, with the diminutive player scoring a brace.

Both tries were clever maneuvers through a crowded 22 yard zone before nonchalantly touching the ball down, which earned him plenty of praise, including praise from Kenya Rugby Union chairman Sasha Mutai.

Speaking to Sports Eye Sports after the match, Mokoro revealed that hard work in training, as well as watching alot of fellow scrum halves, including France’s Antoine Dupont has been helping him improve his game.

“You have to learn something from someone so I have to watch games, good scrum halves (like Antoine Dupont) in the game and also to work hard in training,” Mukoro said.

The dreadlocked number nine has revealed his ultimate aim is to earn a call up to the senior national sides, having already played for Chipu and Kenya Morans , reveling in the fact he played well infront of Mwamba and Shujaa coach Kevin Wambua.

“Training hard, and as well, my motivation is to play for Kenya and I dream of playing for Kenya 15s and Kenya sevens, so I am working hard in order to be spotted.

“It is good to be recognized especially considering I was playing against a team coached by the Kenya sevens coach (Kevin Wambua), so it is a positive for me.

“My ultimate goal is to play for Kenya 15s and Kenya 7s, which is my aim this season.”

Mukoro has also revealed he aims to get better on a game by game basis this season.

“I am happy because I started the season playing in the ESS. I made my Kenya Cup debut last week and this game (against Mwamba) was only my second appearance in the Kenya Cup so I think I am improving weekend by weekend.”

Quins have registered three consecutive wins heading into Christmas.
