KCB RFC have appointed former player Oliver Mang’eni as the replacement for their long-serving and highly successful coach Curtis Olago.

KCB RFC have appointed former Kenya Simbas star Oliver Mang’eni after deciding not to extend the tenure of long-serving coach Curtis Olago.

Popularly known as Olishe, Mang’eni has big shoes to fill given Olago is the club’s most successful coach after leading them to five Kenya Cup titles during his 13 years at the Lion’s Den.

Mang’eni is a former KCB player who understands the club well and was part of the coaching setup under Olago and the bankers feel he is now ready to step up into the hot seat.

KCB have seen their dominance wane in recent years with Kabras Sugar claiming three straight Kenyan Cup titles as well as back-to-back Enterprise Cups.

It could be the reason KCB saw the need for a change in the dugout but that is still not a guarantee for success given the Kakamega-based side boast the best squad in the division.

The bankers enjoyed a successive spell between 2015 and 2021 when they claimed five Kenya Cup crowns, including four in a row from 2017-2021.

Under Olago, they also won two National Sevens Circuit titles, five Great Rift 10s, three Enterprise Cups, and numerous Impala Floodlit titles while he maintained an unbeaten record in the National Sevens Circuit for two years, leading the team to victories in 2014 and 2015.

The bankers also claimed last season’s National Sevens Circuit crown after dislodging Kabras Sugar in the final legs.
