Kayangwe was re-elected Uganda Rugby Union (URU) president during an Elective Annual General Meeting held at WIN5 Hotel in Nakasero.
What was predicted to be a close contest between Godwin Kayangwe and his challenger Philip Kiboijana turned out to be a no-contest as the Uganda Rugby Union went to the polls on Sunday.
Kayangwe was re-elected Uganda Rugby Union (URU) president during an Elective Annual General Meeting held at WIN5 Hotel in Nakasero.
The incumbent polled 65 votes to beat Kiboijana, whose eight votes surprised those that expected the former Kyadondo Rugby Club Vice Chairman to make the race a contest.
The victory hands Kayangwe another four years in office, while Kiboijana hinted at taking a back seat from any leadership in the sport.
Having taken the seat from Andrew Owor in 2019, Kayangwe’s first term was disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, newly elected MP for Omoro County Andrew Oulanyah Ojok beat Nathan Wasolo and Salem Cheman to the Vice President – Commercial seat.
Eric Butime will occupy the Vice President -Technical seat after defeating Zeno Othieno Owora.
Peter Odong is one of the returnees to the executive after beating Regina Lunyolo to the Secretary seat.
Lunyolo was the Women’s Representative in the previous regime and is now replaced by Prossy Nakakande, who beat Zakia Maseruka to the position.
Kennedy Mulindwa (Treasurer), Dorothy Nekesa (Age Grade) and Duncan Kirya (Up Country Representative) complete the executive.
