Siya Kolisi produced a social media frenzy after celebrating South Africa’s win over Scotland in patriotic flag-print underwear, sparking mixed reactions from fans amid his recent divorce and newfound independence.

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi caused a stir on Sunday following South Africa’s 32-15 victory over Scotland in Edinburgh.

Kolisi celebrated the Springboks’ triumph in his own style proudly sporting flag-print underwear that left social media buzzing.

The display comes just weeks after news of his recent separation from his wife, Rachel Kolisi, in October.

Kolisi’s passionate post-match celebration — complete with vibrant South African flag swimwear — struck a chord with fans.

The colorful tribute brought to mind the famously exuberant 2019 celebration by Springbok teammate Faf de Klerk, who memorably greeted Prince Harry while donning patriotic underwear following South Africa’s Rugby World Cup win.

Kolisi’s display evoked similar sentiments with fans interpreting his carefree stance as either a sign of newfound freedom or a bold expression amid his personal struggles.

His flag-print undies — a playful callback to his well-publicized patriotic swimwear moment with Rachel in 2021 — appeared to be an affirmation of his South African pride.

Kolisi, who expressed deep gratitude to fans following the game, shared, "To all the South Africans who came out, thank you so much. It was great to see you in the streets of Edinburgh. We are nothing without you. Wherever we are in the world, you make sure you are there."

As images of Kolisi’s post-game celebration began circulating on social media, the response was swift and divided.

Some fans cheered on his uninhibited expression, attributing it to a newfound sense of independence after his marriage ended.

Others questioned whether his behavior was a sign of emotional turmoil, suggesting the captain might be struggling with the pressures of his recent separation.

"He looks genuinely happy, like he's finally free," commented one fan, Amara Langa.

"Marriage can be a lot, and now he can enjoy himself. That flag Speedo wasn’t an accident; it was definitely intentional, and it means something."

Another supporter, Sipho Mandla, shared a similar view: "Look at his face! He’s doing what he’s wanted to do for so long. Let Siya enjoy himself."

For some fans, Kolisi’s celebratory undies were a refreshing display of personality.

Others, however, voiced concern over his public display, suggesting it might detract from his leadership role.

"I'm all for him having fun, but he's got responsibilities too," wrote Karabo Ntuli.

"Being free is great, but he carries the Springbok brand. I just hope he stays focused and disciplined."

In a more sympathetic take, Marie Laubscher expressed hopes for his well-being during this transitional period.

"Rachel likely kept him grounded, and now he’s finding his way. It's a big change for him, and I hope he stays on track.”

Meanwhile, a few saw the Speedo moment as a reflection of his inner struggles.

“This feels like a cry for help,” observed fellow fan Dumisani Molefe.

“He’s clearly going through a lot, and stress can make people act out in ways we don’t expect. I hope he has a good support system.”
