Back-to-back Impala Floodlit champions KCB RFC will begin their title defense against Kenya University’s Blak Blad.

The Rugby 15s season is set to kick-off this weekend on October 19 at the Impala Club with the Impala Floodlit showdown.

As per Kenya Rugby Union, the tournament draw held at the Impala Club on Tuesday, October 15 back-to-back Impala Floodlit champions KCB RFC will begin their title defence against Kenya University’s Blak Blad.

Tournament Director Brian Njera has expressed optimism ahead of the tournament, highlighting it as a good platform for testing out new structures.

“This like I mentioned earlier is a very good tournament where you are able to test out your new players because as the season starts, we have a period where you sign new players,” said Njera during the draw via Citizen TV.

“You are able to test out new structures and have young players come through the ranks,” he added

In other club category matches, last year's runners-up Nondies will compete against Strathmore, while the Menengai Oilers will face the Catholic University Monks as hosts Impala will take on Mwamba in the final quarterfinal.

The women's competition will feature four teams including hosts Impala Roans who will challenge Northern Suburbs, while defending champions Mwamba will go up against NYS Ladies.

The women's matches are scheduled for October 26 and November 2.

In the universities' category, defending champions JKUAT will play Daystar in the first quarterfinal, with Zetech facing the Kabete Stallions.

The Rift Varsities, a team made up of universities from the Rift Valley region, will compete against USIU, while Impala Boks will take on KCA in the last quarterfinal.
