New dates for the two cup competitions will be announced soon.

The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) on Thursday 16 March postponed the 2023 Mwamba and Enterprise Cup just two days to kick off with new dates set to be released in due course.

This year’s edition of the oldest rugby competition in the country was scheduled to kick off on Saturday 18 March with the second-tier cup competition, Mwamba Cup also kicking off on the same date.

KRU revealed that the postponement has been necessitated to hand the national rugby 15’s side, Kenya Simbas time to prepare for the Currie Cup.

“The Kenya Rugby Union has today 16th March 2023 resolved to postpone the Enterprise Cup and Mwamba Cup round of 16 scheduled for 18th March 2023 to 25th March 2023.

This is to allow for Kenya Simbas trials in readiness for the upcoming Currie Cup. New Quarter Finals, Semi-Finals and Finals dates for both Cups will be communicated in due course,” read a statement from KRU.

The 2023 Currie Cup First Division was extended to incorporate a new competition called the Mzansi Challenge.

The six local teams would contest the Currie Cup First Division and then be joined by four international teams for the Mzansi Challenge.

The four international teams include San Clemente Rhinos (USA), Simbas (Kenya), Welwitschias (Namibia), and Zimbabwe Goshawks (Zimbabwe).

Simbas kickstart their tournament on April Fools against Boland Cavaliers.
