A total of 15 teams including the defending champions, Kenya Sevens have confirmed participation at the Safari Sevens tournament this weekend.

A total of 15 teams have confirmed their participation in this year’s Safari Sevens taking place from Friday, November 17 to Sunday, November 19.

The event will take place at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa (RFUEA) Grounds in Nairobi and has attracted a total of 10 men’s teams led by defending champions Shujaa.

The other teams include Morans, Uganda, Samurai, Germany, Red Wailers and Tropic 7s. KCB Rugby, Western Province, and SA All-Stars have also confirmed participation at the tournament.

The women’s side has attracted five teams including the Lionesses 1 and 2, Uganda, Tuks Women, and Tropic 7s.

Meanwhile, those who wish to attend the opening match on Friday will pay Ksh500 for a regular ticket, but Ksh2000 for a VIP one.

On Saturday and Sunday, the prices will increase, fans will spend Ksh1000 if they wish to buy a regular ticket, and Ksh3000 if they wish to secure VIP slots.

They can also buy a seasonal ticket for the full duration of the tournament. A regular season ticket will cost Ksh2000, while a VIP one will cost Ksh5000.

The tournament last took place in 2021 at the Nyayo National Stadium and was set to return in 2022, but was cancelled by the previous Kenya Rugby Union board due to “unavoidable circumstances”.

In the 2021 edition, Shujaa were crowned champions after defeating Germany 12-5 in the cup finals. Kenya Morans secured third place by overcoming Red Wailers 12-5 to claim the bronze medal.
