The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has disclosed that they need more time before providing an update regarding the next host of the event scheduled for 2026.
The federation provided an update in April, noting that they would have found a host in May but time has elapsed and they confirmed that it is a complex situation that would need more time before they arrive at a proper host.
As quoted by GamesBids.com, a CGF spokesperson explained that they need further time to decide since arriving at the host of the event is a complex process.

Meanwhile, Scottish Health Secretary Neil Gray noted that the federation intends to announce a host in May and now that the month is over, there are a lot of questions surrounding the certainty of hosting the event.
“If at that stage, Scotland is deemed to be the only viable option, then steps will be taken to gather additional information and assurances to enable the Scottish Government to confirm or otherwise its support to proceed,” Gray said.

All the issues came about when Durban, South Africa was stripped from hosting the 2022 Games for missing financial milestones. Birmingham, England had been planning a bid for the 2026 edition but stepped in to fill the 2022 gap instead.
No other cities had emerged for 2026 so the federation gave Hamilton in Canada but they failed to get provincial funding for the project and rejected the deal, leaving the CGF scrambling to find a host.
