Namwamba expressed his excitement about seeing the KNRC slowly taking shape and coming back to standard.

After hosting the successful fifth round of the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) on Saturday in Eldoret, Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba has promised to burn the midnight oil in ensuring the standard of the sport in Kenya is upheld.

Namwamba expressed his excitement about seeing the KNRC slowly taking shape and returning to standard and he added that going forward, rallying will be taken seriously by the Ministry.

“I’m particularly excited to see the KNRC back in the groove because we want rallying in Kenya to be back to where it used to be…actually even rise higher than ever before. There is full support for rallying and motorsport,” he said.

The CS was also impressed by the huge turnout of Kenyans who participated in the WRC Safari Rally in June in Naivasha.

“We had our youngsters in action…we had a strong Kenyan flavour in the WRC and that’s what we want to promote even in the KNRC,” he added.

Meanwhile, he also expressed his excitement about the progress being made at the Kipchoge Keino Stadium where major sporting events will be held from on its completion.

“I inspected the stadium on Friday and I must say that there is some progress on the pitch, VIP pavilion, and abolition, and in the next nine to 10 days before we open the conference with the sporting events, I believe we shall be ready,” he said.
