River Seine sparkles as Paris gear up for historic Olympic opening ceremony

The Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony takes place on Friday, July 26 and athletes will be out to showcase their sense of fashion before taking their rivalries to the field.

The Olympic Games opening ceremony is always a sight to behold with certain protocols to be observed and Paris will witness the 2024 edition of the Olympic Games opening ceremony along the River Seine at 21:00 EAT on Friday, July 26.

This includes the revealing of the Olympic rings, the Olympic motto, the athletes’ parade, the Olympic oath and the lighting of the Olympic flame.

The 2024 Olympics come exactly 100 years after Paris last hosted the Games. Having also hosted it in 1900, it becomes the second city after London to welcome the Olympics three times. 21 cities across the globe have hosted the summer Olympics.

The name of the Paris 2024 mascot is Olympic Phryge, based on the traditional small Phrygian hats that the mascots are shaped after. The name and design were chosen as symbols of freedom, to represent allegorical figures of the French republic.

At Paris 2024 an estimated 10,500 athletes from 206 nations are expected to compete. These Olympics will be the first Games to achieve full gender equality. A total of 54 African Countries are set to participate at the event.

Kenya is set to make their 14th appearance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, 83 athletes will compete in six different disciplines.

In the previous Tokyo Olympics three years ago, Japan bagged the highest number of medals (58), while Brazil, Great Britain, China, Greece and Australia all increased their medals when they hosted the summer Games.

The upcoming top event comes at a time when France President Emmanuel Macron has refused to name a new government until after the Olympic Games.
