Uganda Police Force is upgrading the Kira Road playgrounds to a modern sports facility.
Construction work is already underway at the playground located next to Kira Road Police Station, commonly known as the Kamwokya (Kataka) Football Pitch.
Speaking to Pulse Uganda Sports, police spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga confirmed the development stating that the facility will have a track lane for athletics and football.
“It will have football grounds and also a track lane so that people from the community and schools can benefit,” he said.
“That police land at Kira Road has been used as a sports ground over the years, so it needed to be upgraded to a sporting facility.”
He noted that the development is limited by the space at the site stressing that it may only accommodate some sports disciplines.
However, Enanga expressed optimism that the facility will host Police Football Club home matches and support the local communities and schools.
“It may not have a modern look like a stadium or a modern futsal ground, but we shall make something that is reasonable,” he explained.
“The ones at KCCA FC (MTN Omondi Stadium) and Kitende (St Mary’s Stadium) are much bigger. If we put turf and enclose it, we shall host club games and invite schools and the local community to utilize.”
