Nigeria's Chess Champion set for 29th Abu Dhabi Chess Festival

The Championship is slated for 14th to 25th of August in Abu Dhabi

Nigeria's Chess Champion, Perpetual Ogbiyoyo, has arrived in Abu Dhabi for the 29th Abu Dhabi Chess Festival 2023.

AED 300,000 is at stake at the championship slated for Radisson Blu Hotel along the Corniche.

The Abu Dhabi Chess and Mental Games Club is in charge of organizing and running the festival, which is under the direction of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

The events, which are headed by the Master's Championship, are split into 14 distinct championships according to the skill levels and age brackets of the competitors.

Arjun Erigaisi, the reigning champion, and Vladislav Artemiev, the third seed, are competing in the forthcoming festival together with top seed Dommaraju Gukesh.

Salem Abdul Rahman, the Emirati champion who has won the most individual chess events in the UAE since 1991, will lead the local challenge.

The Referees Committee in the tournament is being chaired by Mahdi Abdel Rahim, Chairman of the Referees Committee of the International Chess Federation, and a group of Emirati international referees, including Majid Al Abdouli, Salman Al Taher, Maryam Jihad, Al Arabi Bin Yahya from Algeria, Mehrdad Pahlawanzadeh, Bogdan Garbia, Maha Mahmoud, and Marlon Conan.
