'My mother inspired me' - Young weightlifter who won medal at National Youth Games

The young lifter credited his mother, a coach, for the huge influence she has had on his weightlifting career.

Sunday Emmanuel has attributed his victory at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State to his mother.

The young weightlifter continued the dominant performance of Lagos State by winning the bronze medal with a total lift of 111kg.

Emmanuel expressed gratitude to God and the state government for the opportunity to showcase his talent, noting that this was his first outing as a budding weightlifter.

The young lifter credited his mother, a coach, for influencing his career in weightlifting.

"I appreciate my mother’s support and I also thank those who have successfully made significant milestones in the sport, including African and Commonwealth Champion, Adijat Olarinoye," he said.

Lagos' success extended beyond the swimming pool and weightlifting arena.

The state's female football team defeated the hosts, Delta, 2-0 in a match played at St. Patrick's College. Goals from Kashimawo Temilola and Kemi Adegbuyi secured the victory for the indomitable Eko girls.

In other events, the Lagos volleyball team defeated Bauchi 2-0, and Aisha Rabiu and Faisat Musbau claimed gold in the girls' doubles final of the table tennis event.
