Andy Murray came back from a set down to win an epic 3 hours clash with Tomas Etcheverry and reach the Indian Wells second round.
The king of deciding sets has done it again. This time, Andy Murray completed a comeback over Tomas Etcheverry 6-7(5), 6-1, 6-4 to reach the second round of Indian Wells.
In a match that ended 3 hours 12 minutes, Murray came back from a set down to win the second and deciding set, and secure his qualification.
The first set was a close one between both players, and in just under an hour and a half, Etcheverry grinded out the win 7-6(5) in a tiebreak. Murray will make a statement comeback, taking the second set 6-1, and eventually winning the deciding set 6-4.
Murray has now won seven out of seven matches in deciding sets in 2023, which he says isn't a coincidence but evidence of hard work in the off-season.
"I don't think it is a coincidence, but last year I lost a lot of them and I was talking to my team about it and was saying like, the law of averages is saying this can't keep going, and once I win one I did feel like I will start to feel more comfortable in those situations and thankfully that's been the case.
"Obviously winning all seven, I'm aware at some stage I will lose one, but I worked really hard in the off-season, I've put myself in a great position physically and I feel very motivated. So even when I've gone behind in matches, I've kept fighting, kept trying to find solutions, and won some matches that if I'd played last year, I wouldn't have won them," the Scottish legend said in an on-court interview with Tennis TV.
