Malkia strikers will battle it out with four other teams for the prestigious 2023 Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA) Sports Team Women award.
The national women’s Volleyball team Malkia Strikers is among the top five nominees shortlisted for the 2023 Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA) Sports Team Women ahead of the annual gala scheduled for February 23 in Nairobi County.
The Malkia Strikers were on fire last season as they reclaimed the Women's African Nations Championship title after eight years. Their dominant exploits saw them automatically qualify for the Paris Olympic Games scheduled for later this year.

They will face competition from the Roll Ball team, which is making its maiden appearance among the nominees.

FOOTBALL Junior Stars, Kakamega Homeboyz nominated for the SOYA awards
Kenya National U-18 Boys team and 2023 FKF Cup champions Kakamega Homeboyz have been nominated for SOYA Awards Team of the Year
The Roll Ball team got the chance to make it to the list of nominees after putting on a good fight and clinching the World Cup title last year. They fought for the win owing to the fact that they lacked proper facilities to train on.
Nairobi Water, one of the women’s handball teams will also be hoping to make an impact this time around. The team was in a class of their own, going unbeaten in the Kenya Handball Federation National League and winning the overall title.
The 3x3 basketball team has also made it to the list of nominees after their dominant exploits in the international scene.
The team, consisting of Hildah Indasi, Madina Okot, Mercy Wanyama, and tournament MVP Natalie Mwangale emerged as the African Champions, securing a thrilling 21-20 victory over hosts Egypt in the final of the FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup 2023 held in Cairo.
The Kenya Ports Authority women’s team has also made it to the list of nominees after proving their prowess which saw them secure silver in the inaugural Africa Women's Basketball League (AWBL) that concluded in Alexandria, Egypt.
Meanwhile, the prestigious event that fetes best sports achievers, will be marking its 20th anniversary since its inaugural edition in 2004 which saw legendary Paralympian Henry Wanyoike and athletics great Catherine Ndereba named the sportsman and sportswoman of the year respectively.
