The national rugby 15s team is currently in South Africa for the Currie Cup.

Kenya Simbas have stepped up their preparations ahead of facing the Border Bulldogs of South Africa in their third Currie Cup First Division clash on Saturday, May 6 at 3:30 p.m. EAT.

As part of their preparations for the highly contested match, head coach Jerome Paarwater has organised a friendly match for the team on Thursday, May 4 against the Junior Boks at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport.

Paarwater will use the match to select a team that will be in action on Saturday. “There’s a lot of guys in our team who haven’t played yet and we want all of them to get some game time,” he said.

He added that their main focus has been on the kicking game to make the players understand the part of the field where they have to exit from the lineouts and scrums and know how to play in the right areas of the field.

He also lauded the squad for their impressive set pieces during their previous match on Saturday despite their loss. Paarwater watched his team lose 18-7 to Eastern Province Elephants in Port Alfred, South Africa.

“The guys understand our contesting policy and that’s why we managed to steal a few balls from EP’s possession.

Border is a different team and has changed a lot from last year, they have a good structure and big forwards, that’s why it’s important for us to have a kicking game,” he added.
