Former Sports CS Ababu Namwamba has listed some of his achievements during his tenure as he believes sports is in a better place than when he found it.

Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba believes he changed the fortunes of Kenyan sports during his near two-year tenure.

Namwamba, like all other Cabinet Secretaries, was sent packing following President William Ruto’s decision to sack his entire Cabinet last week amid protests from Kenyans over his leadership and government.

The former Budalangi MP, however, has no ill feelings towards his dismissal as he feels it is within the rights of the Head of State but leaves with his head held high as he thinks Kenyan sports is in a better place than when he found it in October 2022.

“I believe I have done a fantastic job,” Namwamba told KBC TV at the weekend.

“We have revived sports, we got FIFA to lift the suspension on football, AFCON is coming to Kenya for the first time, see how motorsport is coming back to life, we have taken a team to the FIFA World Cup [Junior Starlets] for the first time in Kenyan history.

“It is a success story all over the place but it up to the President to decide how he wishes to move forward from this point.”

Namwamba left his docket at a time when Kenya is in the thick of preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics that begin in just two weeks in the French capital.

The former CS had also come under fire from a section of Kenyans who demanded that his ministry releases a list of all the non-competitive participants heading to the Paris Olympics in a bid to check expenditure of public funds.
