Triple jump Paris Olympics gold medalist Thea LaFond has said she is looking forward to the new season after her historic win in the French capital.

The 30-year-old claimed the first-ever Olympic gold medal for the Dominican Republic and has already amassed other medals under her belt .

During the 2022 Commonwealth Games, she improved her result and won a silver medal in the women's triple jump event. In March, LaFond became the first person from Dominica to win a World Championship gold medal, after taking first place in women's triple jump at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships, setting a national record of 15.01m.

As she enters her prime, LaFond said there's more to come from her and wants to be super ready for the grueling 2025 season. "Going into the new track season, I believe I'm not done yet. I'm still very much the athlete and I'll be focusing on that. I want to be super ready," she said via Dominica News Online YouTube channel.

LaFond is already looking forward to the future and has hinted at venturing into coaching once she hangs up her spikes. However, she added that she's not burdening herself with pressure to reveal her long term plans.

"I might venture into coaching, we'll see that in the future.. I'm taking one year at a time."

LaFond competed in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where she won a bronze medal. She set a national record in the women's triple jump at the University of Maryland, where she was a multi-event athlete from 2011–2015.
