The list of the highest paid sports women in 2024 has been released and there are major surprises while a number of big names are missing.

Female athletes raked in millions of dollars in prize money and endorsement deals this year, but there was no place for track and field stars yet again in the top 15 best paid.

As per the list released by Spotico this week, tennis stars dominated the list of highest earning female athletes yet again with 20-year-old American Coco Gauff on top.

Gauff made $30.4 million in 2024 with $21 million coming from product endorsements while she earned $9.4 in prize money, followed by skier Eileen Gu who made $22.1 million, nearly the whole of it from brand deals.

With tennis stars occupying six of the top 10 slots, the next five places are occupied by tennis players in Iga Swiatek ($21.4m), Zheng Qinwen ($20.6m), Aryna Sabalenka ($17.7m), Naomi Osaka ($15.9m) and Emma Raducanu ($14.7m).

Meanwhile, eighth place is occupied by golf star Nelly Korda, who earned $14.4 million, while US gymnast Simone Biles, who won four Olympics medals in Paris, including three gold, raked in $11.1 million same as basketball star Caitlin Clark who closes the top 10.

Tennis stars Jasmine Paolini ($10m), Jessica Pegula ($8.2m) and Elena Rybakina ($7.9m) claimed the 11th, 13th, and 14th positions in that order while golfer Jeeno Thitikul took home $9.1m for 12 place as another golfer Lydia Ko completed the top 15 with earnings of $6.7 million this year.

Endorsements played a major part for the athletes with Indiana Fever's Clark for instance seeing her salary account for just one percent of her total earnings of $11.1 million.

As it has been the norm, track and field stars did not make the top 15 despite the best efforts of top names such as Sha’Carri Richardson and Gabby Thomas who are the crowd pullers.

Richardson did not earn much from the track this season but she has brand endorsements with Nike, Beats by Dre, Android, Oikos, Olay, and Sprite which were still not enough to put her among the top earners.
