FG, Ogun State sign MOU to host 22nd National Sports Festival

Ogun State will host the National Sports Festival for the second time in the history of the state in 2024.

Ahead of the preparations for the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, the Federal Government and the Ogun State Government have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the hosting rights.

The Honourable Minister for Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare, and the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, signed the hosting rights and agreement for the 22nd National Sports Festival (2024) on Saturday.

SWAN berates inadequate planning by the Ogun Government for hosting National Sports Festival

Pulse Sports reports that the Ogun State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) also commended the government for upholding the promise it made to the athletes who took part in the most recent National Sports Festival but expressed disapproval of its lack of commitment to hosting the following Sports Festival.

In a communiqué at the end of the Monthly Congress for May 2023 at its Moshood Kashimawo Abiola (MKO) Stadium, the SWAN Secretariat on Tuesday.

"The Congress commends the government for keeping the promise made to the athletes that participated at the last National Sports Festival but frowned at the poor commitment to the proposed hosting of the next Sports Festival," the communiqué stated.

Ogun State rewards gold medalists with N1 million

Pulse Sports reports that the Ogun state governor, Dapo Abiodun, rewarded the state gold medalist with one million naira at the 21st national sports festival in Delta State.

Ogun state contingent finished eighth on the log with a total number of 70 medals, 15 gold medals, 18 silver, and 37 bronze medals at the just concluded National sports festival in Delta state.
