Over 16 countries are expected to participate in the championships that will be held from October 11th -15th at Montecasino in Johannesburg, South Africa.

A total of eight men and women were selected to the respective Uganda National Pool team for the 2023 All Africa Pool Association Championships.

Over 16 countries are expected to participate in the championships that will be held from October 11th -15th at Montecasino in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Pool Association of Uganda's technical committee had shortlisted about 24 players, 12 from each gender, for the two-day trials that ended with a round-robin mini-league on Sunday at Tickles and Giggles bar in Kampala.

“All players who progressed from Saturday's selections were subjected to a round-robin league action amongst the team, leading to results shown on the table,” the Pool Association of Uganda announced.

Among the big names that have been slashed from the team include former national team captain Victoria Namuyanja, who failed on grounds of discipline.

Namuyanja failed to keep time and could not present her travel documents in time with no communication.

“The top eight in each gender category will, therefore, proceed with training. The rest remain National players awaiting assignment,” PAU added.

The team will take part in the AAPA championships and the Hawley Cup that will be played concurrently.

About Hawley Cup

Blackball International announced in 2019 the intention of holding a new International event called 'The Hawley Cup'.

The event, which has been named in honour of Peter Hawley, whose contribution to the sport of pool was immeasurable, will launch in October.

Hawley was the President of the South African Pool Union (SAPU) and he was the founder member and President of the All Africa Pool Association (AAPA).

He became Vice President of the World Pool Association and an Executive member of the World Confederation of Billiard Sports (WCBS).

Hawley was the founder and pioneer of the sport of blackball pool, the main reason Blackball International awarded the inaugural event to South Africa.

It will be hosted by the All African Pool Association (AAPA).
