ROLL BALL Angela Kithinji shares plight facing roll ball players in the country

The Roll Ball ladies' national team successfully defended their World Cup title early this year after thrashing Egypt 5-0 in the final.

Roll Ball sensation Angela Kithinji has lamented that even after years of toil and moil to bring glory back to Kenya, the team has faced a lot of challenges and nobody seems to address that.

Kithinji added that there is little to no appreciation that comes after that and as a team, they feel the government can do better. She added that they do not have suitable grounds for training and are forced to go to universities, unlike other countries that have prioritized the sport.

“Winning the trophies is good but the appreciation that comes after that is quite disappointing. It’s not a pleasing thing that makes us feel good. We expect the country to appreciate us.

They should at least make sure we have a Roll Ball playground. We train in universities, in the outdoor area and this is an indoor sport. We lack an indoor arena for training and when we go for international competitions, we tend to struggle a lot,” she told Nation Sport.

Kithinji also noted that they do not just win the trophies to store them in their offices. She complained that the government and relevant stakeholders should show their interest in seeking to develop the sport.

“We didn’t win these trophies to own them in our houses or federation offices…we need to be appreciated,” she said.

Despite the challenges, they have been able to push through thanks to their passion for the sport.

“We just love the sport…that’s what keeps us moving. We sacrifice our weekends for training. We are also a family and we encourage each other,” she said.
