Alex De Minaur will be playing in his third career final, coming back from a set down to defeat Holger Rune.
Aussie's No. 6 seed Alex De Minaur fought back from a set down to defeat Holger Rune 3-6 7-5 6-2 and reach his third career ATP 500 final in Acapulco.
The match was another incredible, almost 3 hours battle in brutal conditions where Rune came down with severe cramps in the third set, drastically reducing his chances of making it to the final.
De Minaur will now face American Tommy Paul in the final, who defeated fellow countryman Taylor Fritz in an epic clash earlier in the day.
Match recap
The match started past midnight in Mexico, with Rune cruising to victory in the first set 6-3, lasting 47 minutes.
De Minaur will then force a deciding set after winning the second set 7-5, a match that lasted 1 hour 20 minutes.
In the third set, Rune began cramping badly, having difficulties with serving or moving, an indication of full-body cramps. He refused to retire from the match but decided to finish.
The decision paid off for a while as he won some good points to get on board for 1-3. With more pain and unable to play to his maximum, De Minaur sealed victory 6-2.
