GRASSROOTS 30 Schools set for Unity Sports Carnival in Lagos

The event will take place on May 6 at the Cricket Oval of Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos.

All is set for the maiden edition of the Unity Sports Carnival, organized by the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA).

A total of 30 schools from across the country will battle for medals at the event.

USOSA President Mike Magaji disclosed that the carnival is organised to promote the love and unity that the Unity School is known for.

He added that the old students organized the events to promote excellence in Nigeria.

Unity Old Students

He said, “We grew up not knowing differences in tribe and religion, But today, Nigeria is highly challenged due to sentimental issues, and USOSA is using sports as a vehicle to promote talent, and at the same time, rekindle our old love for one another.”

He said, "Diversity, Equity, Unity In Sports’, will see the old students, male and female, compete in five-a-side football, volleyball, table tennis, 100m, 400m, scrabble, ludo, and tug of war."

The Sports Festival is meant to mentor students

The chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Chinedu Okoli, said that the primary goal of the carnival is to teach the upcoming generation of children in the 110 Unity Schools around the nation the importance of showing one another love.

He added that trophies would be awarded to the best-performing schools, and medals will be given to individuals who performed well.

Meanwhile, Four old students, Uyi Apata (President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation), Musa Ahmadu (former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation), Francis Orbih (President of Badminton Federation of Nigeria) and Musa Kida (President of Basketball Federation), will be honored at the carnival for their contributions to sports development in the country.
