With his vast experience, Paarwater seeks closer collaboration with assistants Katywa and Olago.

Kenya Simbas re-appointed head coach Jerome Paarwater is plotting big for the players as he looks to drive them back to winning ways.

Paarwater noted has a detailed four-year plan that he wants to implement to propel the team back to glory.

The Simbas displayed mixed results in their outings last year and one shocking one was failing to make the cut to the 2023 World Cup qualifiers. They were knocked out by Portugal after a humbling 85-0 defeat at the World Cup Repechage match at the Sevens Stadium in Dubai.

They finished eighth last year on the log with 18 points having won three of the nine matches played.

“Right now, we have a vision. Unfortunately, it’s tough to qualify for the World Cup and it needs a lot of planning. We have to build and start from scratch.

That’s why we are starting with the first division Currie Cup so that they can be able to gauge themselves against some of the best teams in South Africa. We now have enough quality players,” he said.

The Simbas are set to enter the fray in April as they face an acid test with teams like Leopards, Valke, Boland Cavaliers, Eastern Province and Border Bulldogs.

The veteran coach noted that they will burn the midnight oil to ensure the players do well and put structures in place on how to play well.

With his experience in the field, Paarwater noted that he will be keen to work with Assistant Coaches Carlos Katywa and Curtis Olago to make the Simbas rise again.

“The fans will have to be patient because it’s a building process. We will try to play to win and we believe our systems will work well,” he said.

He noted that he expects the players to be smart on the pitch and utilise their skills to the fullest. “They must express themselves in the field,” he said.

He added that he will also be introducing younger players in the team to make sure that in the next four years, they have built a formidable team. However, he noted that talented players who are advanced in age will also be given a chance to play.
