The event will be staged at the Buntwani Waterfront Park in Malindi.
The National Olympic Committee of Kenya is bubbling with confidence ahead of hosting the first-ever Kenya Beach Games on March 18 and 19 at the Buntwani Waterfront Park in Malindi.
NOC-K Secretary General Francis Mutuku noted that so far, more than 15 federations had registered for the event and they were expecting to have more than 500 athletes grace the event.
“We are good to go for the inaugural NOC-K Beach Games. We have about 17 federations registered and we have a big number of athletes who have registered. This will be probably the biggest event we have hosted,” he said.
Some of the games that will be played include aquathlon, 3x3 basketball, judo, boxing, wrestling, taekwondo, beach volleyball, beach handball among other sports. He disclosed that football has the highest number of entrants.
He added that apart from using the event as a build up for the Africa and World Beach Games, they also aim to celebrate the sports people in a competitive aspect.
Mutuku revealed that the preparation of the pitch is ongoing and they expect everything to be set by today, March 16. He added that they will have a trial run for beach soccer today to test their preparedness and effectiveness of the facilities to be used during the event.
