Uganda Prisons boss Johnson Byabashaija has backed Uganda Netball Super League champions Prisons Netball Club to dominate the region ahead of the East African Netball Championships due to throw off this weekend in Nairobi.
The Commissioner General of Prisons congratulated the team for their recent victory when they were crowned league champions for the fourth time and revealed that they plan to be a regional powerhouse in netball for a long time.
"We did a lot to achieve the title by appointing an officer in charge, improving on sports medicine, recruitment of proven players and facilitation of sports activities," Byabashaija said.
"Now we are going back to the drawing board; work hard, achieve more trophies."
"And we are going to achieve our goal as Prisons by dominating the game of netball for a long time in this region. You have made us proud and we are pleased," he added.
The Prisons team will represent Uganda, the defending regional champions National Insurance Corporation and Makindye Weyonje, who are making their debut in the tournament.
KCCA Netball Club pulled out of championships citing financial constraints. The championships will be held at the Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi, Kenya.
