The squabbles over the accountability of funds between the National Council of Sports and the Uganda Netball Federation are affecting the players, coach Fred Mugerwa has said.
Mugerwa made the statements while appearing before the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee as among the guests before the panel. He urged the two parties; the federation and the national council to forge a working relationship.
“As were discussing accountability, for us as coaches and players; we were never involved,” Mugerwa told members.
“It is my humble request that the two sides can come to an understanding and reconcile and move forward. The more we fight, the more the players suffer.”
Mugerwa however strongly admitted that all is not well between the two parties and welcomed the clean-up process.
“People are denying whatever was given to them”, he said before adding; “There is time as a coach and was requested to take players to Lugogo but to my surprise, I was chased from that meeting.”
“I don’t know what transpired in that meeting. There’s something between the federation and national council that must be solved,” Mugerwa added.
The investigations pitted the Uganda Netball Federation president Babirye Sarah Kityo against her supervisor, National Council Secretary General Dr. Bernard Ogwel.
Kityo accuses Ogwel of asking for kickbacks for funding allocated to the federation. She is also on three months' leave to allow investigations into the matter.
