Thierry Neuville leads a strong three-car Hyundai team to the WRC Safari Rally.

Twenty-five drivers have confirmed participation in the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally, which revs off on Thursday, June 22 in Naivasha.

The list boasts eight local rally drivers in the support categories led by speedsters Karan Patel, Hamza Anwar, Jeremiah Wahome, and McRae Kimathi.

2022 Motorsports Personality of the Year Karan will drive Ford Fiesta Rally2 alongside his longtime navigator Tauseef Khan.

Fast-riding Hamza Anwar will be driving a Ford Fiesta R3 and he will be out to score points in two categories; the Junior WRC and the Rally3.

Jeremiah Wahome and McRae Kimathi have also entered Ford Fiesta Rally3, which they have been driving for the past two seasons.

Spaniard Dani Sordo tops the list of Hyundai Motorsports drivers alongside his teammates Esapekka Lappi and Thierry Neuville.

Expected to defend the Kenyan leg is the WRC series champion Kalle Rovanpera on his Toyota GR Yaris Rally1.

Rovanpera vaulted to the top of the FIA World Rally Championship standings with a dominant Vodafone Rally de Portugal victory last weekend.

The Finn now boasts a 17-point advantage over Ott Tänak five events into this 13-round season.

Before the Safari Rally, the top world drivers will participate in Rally Italia, where seventy-four crews have been confirmed for the round six events that will take place from June 1-4.

This year's Rally Italia field has seen an impressive surge of over 25 per cent compared to 2022.

Nine top-level Rally1 cars will grace the rugged terrains, joined by almost 40 WRC2 entries and a talented group of youngsters in the FIA Junior WRC, including Kenyan Hamza Anwar.
