Toyota's Evans clinches a record-breaking second win and closes in on championship leader Rovanpera.

Toyota Gazoo Racing driver Elfyn Evans on Sunday afternoon roared to victory at Secto Rally Finland, keeping his dream of clinching the FIA World Rally Championship title alive.

The Welshman's triumph not only solidified his position as one of the sport's top talents but also etched his name in history as the most successful British driver in the event's illustrious 72-year history.

Rally Finland took an unexpected turn on Friday when his championship-leading teammate, Kalle Rovanperä, suffered a devastating roll, putting him out of contention.

Seizing the opportunity, Evans surged ahead and claimed the rally lead, leaving the Finnish hero behind.

With the spotlight firmly on him, Evans faced stiff competition from Hyundai's Thierry Neuville, who was determined to challenge the Welshman's dominance.

However, Evans showcased his mastery of the Toyota GR Yaris on Saturday, winning an impressive seven of the day's eight stages despite tricky wet conditions.

Displaying Evans' unwavering determination, he pushed himself to the limit during the rally-ending Power Stage, clinching an additional five bonus points by emerging victorious over Neuville.

By securing his second Rally Finland win, he joined the ranks of Finnish legends Ari Vatanen and Timo Salonen as a two-time winner, further solidifying his status as a force to be reckoned with in the rally world.

Evans now finds himself in an excellent position to challenge for the coveted FIA World Rally Championship title.

Trailing Rovanperä by 25 points in the championship standings, Evans has proven that he is more than capable of closing the gap with just four rounds remaining.
